The iPhone 12 and What You Should Know

Written by Petra Industries | Oct 20, 2020 5:00:00 AM

It’s that time of the year—pumpkin spice lattes, cooler autumn breezes, and Apple’s annual iPhone reveal. Just a few days ago, Apple revealed the iPhone 12 lineup.

What should consumers expect from this new series? Let’s take a look.

The iPhone 12 Reveal

For months now, rumors have flown about what Apple would reveal with the iPhone 12. And when the company failed to reveal the lineup at their September event, the buzz only grew.

Apple made the annual reveal at their October 13 event, dubbed “Hi, Speed”. At the event, the company announced 4 variants on the iPhone 12, a HomePod mini, and the new MagSafe line of wireless chargers for the iPhone 12.

The 4 variant iPhone 12 editions included two Pro models and two standard models.

All four models feature:

  • OLED displays
  • Super Retina XDR displays
  • 5G compatibility for faster downloads and high-quality streaming
  • Dolby Vision HDR video recording
  • Multiple cameras
  • A14 Bionic Chip—the fastest chip in a smartphone
  • Ceramic shielding for added resilience
  • 4x better drop performance
  • Water-, dust-, and splash-resistance rated IP68
  • Wireless charging

What are the new iPhone 12 models?

Apple revealed 4 new iPhone 12 models—the iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone Pro, iPhone Pro Max.

What’s different between iPhone 12 models?

There are a few key differences between the models. Both Pro versions have an increased focus on photography with the addition of a Telephoto lens and higher optical zoom ranges. They also include a LiDAR Scanner for Night Mode portraits and next-level AR experiences. From a construction standpoint, the Pro models boast a surgical-grade stainless steel construction in contrast to the base and mini being constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum.

5G Comes to the iPhone

The most notable talking point will be the addition of 5G.

Apple’s big selling point will be based around speed and performance, and the addition of 5G compatibility strengthens their case.

The frame has been built using custom 5G antennas while enabling more 5G bands than any other smartphone.

What’s in the box?

For consumers hoping for another charger and additional earbuds, the iPhone 12 is likely to disappoint. The new series will not ship with either in an effort to reduce waste and packaging size.
