How Hands Free Devices Make Customers Safer

Background

According to The Zebra, 9 lives are taken every day as a result of distracted driving. That is approximately 3,500 per year. Among the main causes: use of phones and other electronic devices that divert attention from the much more important task of driving. This is just one reason hands-free devices are are a great idea for those on the go.

The Zebra ran a survey of behaviors and attitudes of 2,000 Americans while they’re driving. The study discovered many variations between distracted driving and cell phone operating systems. “iPhone and Apple Carplay users are more than twice as likely than Android users to video-chat, use Instagram, stream shows on Netflix or Hulu, and take photos and videos while driving.”

And the law is fast catching up. The Governors Highway Safety Association lists 19 states that have prohibited driving while using hand-held phones. Meanwhile, 48 states have banned texting and driving. (Similar bans apply in Washington, D.C.; Puerto Rico; Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.)

As laws targeting distracted driving are only likely to gain traction, a commercial opening exists for an alternative.

How Hands Free Devices Make Customers Safer

The component parts of a phone conversation can be broken into two activities: listening and speaking. Hands are necessary for neither. And thanks to increasingly popular speech-to-text features, even typing on a smartphone is becoming a voice-based experience, freeing up those busy fingers.

The stage is set for growth in sales of hands-free wireless and mobile accessories. As with the best consumer electronics, many hands-free devices offer more than just convenience. They also help to increase safety—especially on the highway.

This is where hands-free devices—and you—come in.

On-the-Go Affordability and Convenience

On the lower end of the price scale are numerous wireless headsets and speakers with microphones. Some are designed with the roadway in mind. If your customers need to make important phone calls on the road, Bluetooth headsets are a great option for multitasking.

Universal cellular mounts also tend to be affordable accessories. They can be attached to cup holders, windshields and air vents for safe, hands-free use.

Another defining aspect of the 21st-century driving experience is GPS.

Guiding the Way with GPS

Help set your customers’ minds at ease with GPS navigators. Similar navigation devices for RVs, semi-trucks, and motorcycles fall on the higher end of the price spectrum. Many of these products also include free lifetime maps.

Another possibility is to get creative by building safety kits that sell. Pairing headphones and Bluetooth speakers—many of which feature hands-free capability—is always a good choice.

But why not create a more car-specific bundle by selling a wireless headset with a GPS navigator? And if a mount is not already included with the latter, throw one into the bargain!

The Takeaway

Keep in mind that hands-free devices perform a valuable service.

Remember the powerful pull of “safety”—not just the concept, but also the word itself—in your interactions with customers. Be sure to emphasize the power of Bluetooth in minimizing roadway risks.
