2021 Mid Year Review

3 Big Tech Developments to Keep Your Eye On

It may be hard to believe, but we’re almost halfway through 2021! And while this June looks very different from last June, last year and the pandemic have had some big impacts on consumer tech, and its associated demands. And to keep you in the know, we’ve assembled a mid year tech review of 2021.

What categories should you keep your eye on as we enter the second half of 2021?

Let’s look.

AI

Just like last year, AI and its continued development/improvement is something to monitor. It effects the way we work, live, and entertain ourselves, and according to simplilearn, we’re only in the early stages of understanding just how profoundly it could affect us.

Soon, it could be used to “help predict demand for services like hospitals enabling authorities to make better decisions about resource utilization, and to detect the changing patterns of customer behavior by analyzing data in near real-time, driving revenues and enhancing personalized experiences.”

That’s a step up from Siri’s current capabilities for sure!

And speaking of health care…

Health Tech

The coronavirus pandemic continues to alter many aspects of life—including consumer tech demands for health care.

People are more interested in monitoring their health at home than ever before. Tracking vitals—including heart rate, blood pressure, temperature, and more—is more important to consumers than ever.

According to Brandwatch, “The pandemic has put a new focus on monitoring health beyond just fitness activities, and the FDA has even given formal approval to certain monitors. Deloitte found that innovators focused on well-being and care delivery models received a record US$6.4 billion in funding in 2020.”

Gaming Gets Big

It’s not liked the video game industry has been an underdog, but it exploded in 2020 due to lockdowns and resulting boredom.

Last year, global gaming sales rose 20% reaching nearly $180 billion, according to MarketWatch. Sony and Microsoft also launched their latest high demand home consoles—the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S respectively—and Sony’s PS5 is the fastest selling console in US history.

This only goes to demonstrate that gaming continues its exponential growth and won’t be slowing down anytime soon.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the second half of the year, these are categories to keep your eye on. Make sure you’re aware of what consumers are purchasing year over year!
